Heat & Energy Transfer Solutions

Whether your product requires the transfer of heat or energy, we work with Thermetic to develop a solution for a custom finished product — wire as small as .001" wound to coil ODs as small as .005", with up to 5 wires in a single coil.

  • Custom wire coiling — round or flat wire, multilayered, multi-filar, torque, coil-to-coil and coil-to-tube connections
  • High-precision laser welding
  • Coil assembly manufacturing

Capabilities in Action

Coil Capabilities

  • Wire as small as .001" (0.025 mm), wound to coil ODs as small as .005" (0.127 mm)
  • Up to 5 wires in a single coil
  • Length tolerances as tight as ±.01" (0.25 mm)
  • Multiple diameters and pitch spacings combined in one coil
  • Multilayer torque coils for high-speed rotation
  • Alloys including stainless steel, nickel, gold, platinum and copper

Typical Applications

  • Catheter shaft support and reinforcement
  • Guidewire coils
  • Radiopaque markers for fluoroscopic imaging
  • Electrical leads for stimulation devices
  • Implantable device components

Laser Welding & Assembly

Coils can be delivered as finished assemblies, with coil-to-coil and coil-to-tube joints made by precision laser welding. Laser welding keeps the heat-affected zone small, so parts stay true and welds can be placed close to heat-sensitive components, with consistent, repeatable depth and width.

Thermetic Products manufactures in Minneapolis, Minnesota, minutes from most Medical Alley device makers.

What to Send for a Quote

  • Wire material and diameter, coil OD and length
  • Pitch, filar count and any welded joints or assembled components
  • Estimated annual volume and prototype quantity
  • Target timeline and any validation requirements

A drawing or a rough sketch is fine to start. Send it to Bill and he will route it to the right manufacturer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How small can a medical coil be?
Wire as small as .001" can be wound to a coil OD as small as .005", with up to 5 wires in a single coil.
What materials can medical coils be made from?
Common choices are stainless steel, nickel, gold, platinum and copper. Platinum and gold are used for radiopaque markers.
Can you laser weld coils to other components?
Yes. Coil-to-coil and coil-to-tube connections are laser welded, and complete coil assemblies can be built and delivered ready for your line.
Where are the coils made?
Thermetic Products in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alexander Sales Group represents Thermetic to medical device OEMs and contract manufacturers.
